Winesky - Privacy Policy

Effective Date: December 1st, 2025

1. Information We Collect

We may collect information you provide directly to us, such as when you create an account, use our service, or contact us. This may include your Bluesky account handle, identifier, and any other information you choose to provide.

We automatically collect certain information about your device and how you interact with our service, including IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, and pages viewed.

We will also collect the information you enter into the app, such as wine reviews, ratings, or your sommelier requests.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to provide, maintain, and improve our service, to communicate with you, and to monitor and analyze usage patterns.

We will do a best-effort pass at anonymizing information on any images you choose to upload, removing EXIF metadata that could be used to identify your device or location, but ultimately the privacy of these images is your own responsibility.

If you choose to share your reviews or ratings publicly, they will be posted on your Bluesky profile and can be viewed by others who have access to the Bluesky network.

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information.

If you chose to upload wine bottle images, whether for identification or sommelier recommendations, we will upload them to your account's Personal Data Server. This means that you have to assume any image you upload to Winesky has the same visibility as your Bluesky images, and can be accessed on the web. The extra information you add about the images (eg. 2021 chardonnay) will also be stored on cleartext on your PDS.

While your sommelier requests are also stored in your Personal Data Server, and thus crawlable by others, we will store the text encrypted to provide a measure of privacy.

We may share your information with service providers who perform services on our behalf. For example, when you upload an image for identification or sommelier recommendations, we may transfer it to Google Gemini or Anthropic's Claude (after our best-effort attempt at removing EXIF metadata) for identification. If you choose to make a sommelier request, we will also share the text from your sommelier request with the AI service provider to generate a response.

We may also share what information we have when required by law, or to protect our rights and the safety of our users.

4. Cookies and Tracking

We may use cookies to identify your account when you return to the website. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

5. Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We strongly recommend you do not enter any personally-identifiable information on the website, nor use images that contain such information.

6. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as necessary to provide our service and fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy, unless a longer retention period is required by law.

7. Your Rights

You may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information. You may also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing of your information. Contact us to exercise these rights.

8. Children's Privacy

Our service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will post notice of the privacy policy change on our Bluesky account @winesky.app.

We do not collect your email address, therefore we have no other way to reach you.

10. Contact Us
